Last weekend, we slept in a tipi,
played live-action Tic-Tac-Toe,
and roasted marshmallows.
John and Dad ran in the half marathon. They ran fast, beat those of us in a car to the finish line. John set a new personal record and Dad finished in the top 5 for his age group.
Oh, and there was a big canyon.

Horse News!!
We've been working with Fresca now for about a week and a half. We've been taking things pretty easy due to a traumatic accident in the trailer, and then getting her hooves trimmed too short because they had been neglected too long and were cracking. But we finally got a saddle on her today and she put up with it so good that we decided to try climbing up. Nicole, who has worked with horses for much of her life, decided she was too scared to get on. So I ended up being the first. I guess I'm not going to make a very good rodeo rider becouse it only took her about 3 seconds to throw me over the fence. But she only threw me once before relaxing and eventually giving in.

4th of July and More Flower Garden
(This is for you , mom)
This is the garden on the 4th (and me of course). See, it's looking better right?
We did the usual on the 4th, BBQ and fireworks. We actually went to a movie, even though it was a glorious day(low 70's), in the middle of the afternoon. We saw Indiana Jones and the bla bla bla, (the new one). We were a little disappointed. The dialog seemed too forced and the jokes were out of place in parts, but it was entertaining. Brad was bummed that fireworks are illegal here, but we made up for it by going to watch the fireworks in the park and then waiting an hour in our car to get out of the hay-field parking lot.
This is my garden this morning, I just watered it because it was looking a little dry. I have a plant in my bedroom that I forgot to water. It is looking great and flourishing in the sunshine. I watered it yesterday and this morning it was dripping water off of it's leaves! It was like sweating! That is how humid it is here.
Love you all a bunch!

Fresca Carter
Dad and I drove up to Logan to meet the new family member. With all the animals that our family has enjoyed, we have never had a close association with a horse, so this was exciting to me. As you can see, Fresca is a beautiful young horse with lots to learn. And she has Ned and Nicole to learn with. They have an exciting adventure ahead and the extended family will have some opportunities to learn about horses too. What a great day we had.

Another addition to our little family
So Nicole and I added a new member to our collection of non-human family members. This one is a just little bigger than the others. Her name is Fresca, She will be 2 in August, she is a 3/4 quarter Horse 1/4 Arabian, Buckskin mare. She was very beautiful, but on the short trip to her new home she got spooked and bucked around a little in her trailer and got a couple of nasty cuts on her face, Luckily Nicole was prepared for such, and we already had some wound salve to rub all over her. We think she's going to be fine.
